May the Fourth be with you (Star Wars)
Oct 9, 2005
It is not surprising that we had a Star Wars theme birthday. What IS surprising is that we were able to wait until Kian was four to give it to him.

Invitations:
I made a ‘teaser’ poster, Photoshopping a photo I took of Kian posing in his costume into the original Episode I poster. Inside I trailed the details in the vanishing text style of the movie openings, asking for padawans to join us at the academy.

Costumes:

“AnaKIAN’s” pod racer helmet was a very lucky e-bay auction win from a pawn shop (can you believe $10 shipped for a collector’s item that originally cost $50?!). The rest of his costume was a haphazard sewn job of starched linen fabric, faux leather, and thrift store pants. Ashlyn’s Amidala costume was another find--a close-out from a costume shop online (cheap because the lights on the bottom didn’t work, but that’s ok).
Shmi’s costume was a nurses’ robe and a scarf from a thrift store. I made the Obi-wan costume for this event, but planned to use it for Doug for Halloween as well. I already had my Han and Princess Leia costumes, though I was able to find a new, better, easier Leia wig at a comic shop.

We asked guests to wear clothing ‘on the light side, or the dark side’, and then gave them paper Star Wars masks (ebay) or paper Darth Vader masks (Walmart), depending on if they wanted to be a Jedi or a Sith.

Decorations:
Star Wars Collectibles (not any problem at our house!)
Star Wars Posters
Outer Space Photo Wall: Star backdrop paper (Shindigz), white christmas lights, & Millenium Falcon toy suspended from ceiling
Grey and black streamers
‘Boomba’ balloons (turquoise balloons with a spinkle of silver and red paint)

Food:
Chewy the cookies (chewy chips ahoy)
Pizza the Hutts (Bagel Bite pizzas)
Han Burgers (mini burgers from costco)
Darth Taters (French Fries)
Jar Jar of Pickles
C3POPCORN
The Vegi Council with Skywalker Ranch (my personal favorite!)
Darth Vader Cake (from a DV-shaped pan I got in the 80s)
Clone Ice Creams (pre-scooped vanilla ice cream balls with black frosting on top to resemble a clone trooper helmet--easy!)

Tip: as you hand guests cake, don’t forget to say ‘May the fork be with you!’

Games:
Destroy the Death Star (self-made pinata)
Asteroid Field (scatter peanuts around the yard and watch the kids go nuts searching for them)

Party Favors:
Lightsabers (party supply store on e-bay--These were $3.50 each so that’s all I gave away)
