Meowvelous Birthday (Cats, Fe-NINE)

Purring about cats? Go beyond ears & tails and eat cat - theme food out of cat bowls and drink out of fountains!
 
Costumes: Ashlyn's costume was put together from a Walmart shirt and gloves, Target pants, and fabric. We got to reuse the lion costume from Kian's FIRST birthday, and my cat costume from Mardi Gras.  We asked the guests to come in their choice of black, white, grey, orange, brown, or leopard print and furnished them with cat tails and ears (made easily and inexpensively with fake fur and felt), and painted whiskers and noses on their faces.   Decorations: Kitty Photo Wall: Pages from a cat calendar (from the $1 store) & pillows on the ground for kids to ‘sleep’ on Cat decor (from Halloween clearance sales) Brown, leopard, and tiger striped balloons (Wishing Well) Decorate-your-own cat dish ($.25 each from Ikea)  Food: We let the kids eat out of their decorated cat dishes, both for snacks and for cake and ice cream. They also drank out of ‘fountains’. They loved it! Cats and crackers (cat-shaped cheese cut from a very small cat cookie cutter) (For each of these I made tags that looked like cat food bags): Seafood Delight (Crab Puffs) Tuna Flavor (Tuna Fish Sandwiches) Gourmet ‘wet food’ (Bagel Bites Pizzas) Vegetarian (Carrots & celery) (To look like cat food): Goldfish crackers Popcorn Fountains: Chocolate Fountain with cat-shaped cookies for dipping (Trader Joes) Punch Fountain  Cat Cake (courtesy Britta Peterson, Cat shape, made from cake and hand-moulded rice Krispie treats, and sparkle candles for ‘whiskers’)   Activities: Decorating Cat cookies (Cat cookie cutters are easy to find at Halloween time) Meowsical Chairs Pin the tail on the cat Decorating Cat Dishes  Party Favors: Leopard & tiger print purses (Oriental Trading Co.)
