Hollywood Glamour Party
Saturday, November 24, 2007
A premiere into double-digits deserves a more sophisticated production. So with feather boas, a red carpet, a sparkle curtain, and lots of silver and gold star bling, it was easy to produce a party worthy of an Oscar!

Invitations:

For the invitation front I used a picture I staged of Ashlyn as a pop star with stage light clipart with the text “Hurray for Hollywood starring Ashlyn Barbieri”, highlighting part of the H and the o as a ‘10’.
Inside I used this clapboard graphic and changed the text as puns, and the back was an altered ‘map to the star’s homes’ graphic to show how to get to our house. We also included a ‘movie ticket’ to watch a movie at the end of the party.

Costumes:
Ashlyn's pop star outfit was a $1 find at a garage sale (3 sizes too big, but the belt at the waist made it a real ‘cinch’).

We asked the guests to come dressed as their favorite star from the silver screen or in formal hollywood attire. We provided them their own glamour bling with feather boas (discount in bulk!) and beads. Then we gave them the chance to stroll down the red carpet in front of the paparazzi (ok, so just ONE camera, but they still loved it).

Decorations:
V.I.P. Red Carpet Photo Wall: Star paper from Shindigz, glitter curtain from Wishing Well, star lights from Ikea, red carpet and ‘stage lights’ from Party City)
Film reel, movie camera light, clapboard (from our home theatre room!)
Gold and silver stars (Christmas ornaments from Ikea)
Glamour Shot Poster (made through shutterfly)
Hollywood napkins, clapboard plates, hollywood confetti (Party City)

 Food:
Mann’s Chinese (egg rolls)
Double Digit Doritos
Hollywood and Red Vines (red licorice)
Award-winning Role-ups (pinwheels)
Paparazzi Pizzas (Bagel Bites Pizzas)
Putting on the Ritz (Ritz & star-shaped cheese)
Chocolate Bling (chocolate fountain)
Punch Fountain
Walk of Fame Star Cake (courtesy Britta Peterson)
Concession Stand (Popcorn machine and snack-sized movie theatre candy such as Jr. Mints and Milk Duds)

Activities:
You’re the Star Cookie Decorating (star cookie cutter and lots of decorating items)
Name on the Back Game (try to guess what Hollywood-themed person, character, or thing you are, such as camera, film, or Darth Vader)
Movie Premiere (watched a movie in our home theatre at the end of the party, complete with ‘Concession Stand’)

Feather Boas (online and at Salvation Army for about $1 each)
