CONSTRUCTING A BIRTHDAY
Monday, October 11, 2004
"Demolition" describes a 3 year old boy perfectly, so it was only fitting to have a Construction Theme (a whole house of Cal-Trans workers!!)

Invitations:
I cut out a triangular shaped ‘sign’ from yellow construction paper and pasted graphics of construction cones with candles on top, and put the following text:

Kian Barbieri would like to contract you as his guest at his breaking ground ceremony as he builds to 3 years of age.
Demolition begins at 3:30pm at the (address) construction site.

Section 10.11, Part III of the Birthday Union Code suggests party guests comply with party atmosphere standards by trying their darnedst to wear party dress code gear: construction yellow or orange shirts and blue jeans. Hard hats and dirt will be provided at no charge as part of your worker’s compensation package.
Build your own rock quarry sundaes will also be constructed on site.

Please remember, Funs are doubled in construction zones.

Submit your bid at (RSVP).

Costumes:
Kian’s simple costume was an orange shirt, jeans, and a light-up construction helmet and tool belt, both found at the local toy clearance store!

Orange shirts and an orange dress from Walmart and Target and jeans were all it took to get us started. A neighbor also loaned us two safety vests.

As said above, we asked guests to come in orange and yellow, and they did! And it looked awesome! We furnished them with construction hats they got to decorate themselves with stickers, jewels, and glitter glue (Oriental Trading).

 Decorations:
Construction Zone photo wall: construction truck cardboard cut outs and blue and green craft paper available by the yard (Wishing Well), and a road rug (Home Depot)
Construction cones (some on loan, others from Oriental Trading)
Orange balloons and streamers
‘Birthday Zone’ yellow tape (local party store)
Truck toys

Tree logs (pretzel sticks)
River Rock (peanuts)
Igneous Rock (Chocolate Chips)
