Halloween Costume

After regularly tuning in to the then newest Star Trek show, Voyager, we put together these costumes of B'Elanna, Chakotay, and Captain Janeway.

Since I couldn't find matching shirts at a thrift store, I was forced to shell out "the big bucks" and purchase new black shirts and grey turtlenecks from Walmart (I think the adult black shirts were $12 each, the turtlenecks $8 each, and the Ashlyn-sized shirts $5 each piece--so, even though these are really great prices, that means $50!).

I then doctored them up with $1.99/yard fabric from the fabric store. The com badges and Maquis rank insignias are made from painted plastic you melt in hot water and shape with your hands (quickly before it loses pliability, which means you sure burn your fingers in the meantime! Too bad we hadn't gone to Las Vegas's Star Trek Experience before this, since we could have just bought metal ones!)... The pips for Ashlyn Janeway were earring posts.

The make-up effect was simple eyeliner pencil and eyeshadow. I had tried using "Witch wax" but it was too messy and kept falling off, and for pictures it didn't even look as good (though of course it was nice to have it be three-dimensional in person). Doug looks pretty good with black hair, don't you think? $1.99 tinted hairspray from Walmart.
