Theme Party Costume

For my 30th birthday celebration, I wanted to have an 80's theme party, since I was most definitely a child of the 1980s!!

To become a Valley Girl, I found an 80s pink dress at a thrift store for only $1! Accessorizing it proved more difficult and expensive (Claire's Boutique and Target helped me out tremendously!) , though I was happy to wear the boots I still had from my high-school days. I even got my hair permed for this occasion (and, well, I wanted to get a perm anyway).

To transform Doug into Billy Idol, I once again scoured thrift store for a women's silk blouse, a cross necklace, and great black boots (which have been used for countless costumes since, such as Han Solo--I think they cost less than the necklace!). I found skull rings at Wishing well, and massive amounts of eyeliner and hair gel completed the effect (you should have seen his hair the next day!!!)

To turn Ashlyn into FLASHLYN (from the ever-popular Flashdance clothes fad popular when I was in Junior High), I managed to accessorize her blue leggings by putting a torn a girl's sweatshirt over a boy's netted tank top, and cutting the bottoms off a pair of women's orange socks (blech!) to make them look like leg warmers. Ashlyn loved her costume, and was even caught dancing to the 80s music that blasted throughout the party!
